Description
DC Department of Transportation has suggested modifications to the intersection of Longfellow Street and North Capitol Streets (see Notice of Intent #20-86-TOA). These modifications are proposed as a result of a safety evaluation performed by DDOT at the request of neighbors and Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner Alison Brooks. At the intersection of Longfellow Street and North Capitol Street NW, Longfellow Street NW is controlled by a STOP sign and is one-way eastbound, on the west side of North Capitol Street NW. The primary safety concern at the intersection is frequent vehicular angle crashes between the eastbound and northbound vehicles, due to insufficient line of sight for eastbound drivers that results from a combination of southbound queuing from the traffic signal at North Capitol Street and New Hampshire Avenue NW and vegetation on the southwest corner of the intersection. The eastbound drivers often fail to see northbound drivers until after they enter the intersection.
