Description
ANC 3/4G calls on DMPED to abandon its housing plans for the Civic Core to prioritize instead building new or modernizing the existing community center and library facilities while preserving and improving the site’s green/open space and recreational areas. The commission further urges DMPED to propose to the DC Council use of already allocated budget funds for these purposes. Majorities of Chevy Chase survey respondents have spoken clearly, in 2023 and in 2025, that they do not want housing at the Civic Core. These neighbors are not anti-housing; they are pro-civic space at the community center and library site. The ANC needs to make this clear to DMPED and convey as well that, as the Connecticut Avenue corridor is redeveloped with housing, the District will meet its housing goals in Chevy Chase. This might take longer than some would prefer. But doing it this way will promote far greater support among our constituents and foster comity in our community.
