Description
Advisory Neighborhood Commission 4E unanimously adopted this resolution requesting increased oversight of the District of Columbia Housing Authority’s (DCHA) rent reasonableness determinations under the Housing Choice Voucher Program. The Commission expresses concern that inadequate verification of bedroom counts and comparable market rents may result in inflated rental payments and unnecessary expenditures of public funds. The resolution urges DCHA to fully comply with federal rent reasonableness requirements and encourages the Council to consider legislation ending the exemption of housing vouchers from rent stabilization laws. It further requests that the DC Office of the Inspector General and the DCHA Office of Audit and Compliance conduct audits to verify bedroom counts, review rent comparables against the unassisted private market, and recover taxpayer funds where overpayments or waste are identified.
