ANC 4E formally requested that the Department of Public Works remove the public trash receptacle located at Georgia Avenue and Buchanan Street NW and relocate it to 4300 Arkansas Avenue NW near Upshur Pool and the basketball courts. The request followed ongoing concerns from residents and DPW regarding persistent misuse of the receptacle for household trash disposal, resulting in overflowing trash, rodent activity, foul odors, and litter impacts on nearby homes and public spaces. DPW staff also noted that the receptacle was frequently refilled immediately after collection, creating the appearance that the can was not being serviced. At its May 12, 2026 public meeting, ANC 4E voted unanimously, 5-0-0 with one Commissioner absent, to support the relocation request and work collaboratively with DPW on improved placement options.
